This is a two-ingredient blend: Virginia and Latakia, period. No Orientals. That’s a huge deal because most Balkan blends lean on Orientals for that spicy, herbal complexity.
The Smoke: You get the campfire smokiness of Latakia right up front, but it’s balanced by the natural, sugary sweetness of Virginias. Think of it as a clean, back-and-forth between sweet and smoky. Some guys describe a “spicy” taste, but that’s actually a characteristic of the specific Latakia and dark Virginias used, not Oriental tobacco.
What it’s NOT: If you’re expecting the layered complexity of a classic Balkan like Balkan Sobranie, you’ll be disappointed. It’s much more straightforward. As one review put it, this is “a simple, classic, purist, medium Balkan” that purposely puts the Latakia out front.
