Samuel Gawith Navy Flake is a traditional British pressed blend made of bright Virginias, a delicate pinch of Latakia, and a top-dressing of real Jamaican rum.
The Blend: Unlike typical Navy flakes that rely strictly on Virginia and rum, the subtle addition of Latakia gives this mixture an earthy, smoky undertone that perfectly balances the sweet, citrusy Virginia and the warm rum.
Prep & Moisture: Known for being quite damp straight from the tin, it usually requires a solid 30–60 minutes of drying time to prevent frequent relights.
Flavor Profile: Smokes cool and slow, delivering a creamy, spiced, and subtly sweet taste. The rum flavoring is smooth and noticeable in the background without masking the natural tobacco notes.
Nicotine & Room Note: It hits right at a mild-to-medium strength, making it an excellent all-day smoke. The room note is fairly robust due to the Latakia and rum, but rarely off-putting.
